Silicon Chip October 2016

Silicon Chip - October 2016

In the the October edition of Silicon Chip Magazine, build a Zika Mosquito Trap. This easy to build unit, emits a precise frequency sound that attracts the mosquito which can then be lured into a trap. The unit can be mounted in a small project box and then fitted to a large plasic bottle to make an inexpensive trap for these mosquitoes. Also this month, build some Micropower LED Flasher Modules, these small compact modules can replace the previously popular, but now obsolete LM3909 flasher/oscillator IC.

This month also includes the assembly details for the Micromite Plus Explore 100 Module, as well as instructions on calibrating the Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter. The first part of the Touchscreen Voltage/Current Reference is also covered. This unit has an output of 0-47V with a very high accuracy of ±0.1%, together with a precision current source or sink, from 1mA to several amps. Both references are controlled by an easy to use, touchscreen display. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.

In the articles in this edition, a look at the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope, now in operation in China. This radio telescope can now listen to signals further into deep space than has ever been possible. Also in this month’s features, a look at the available Implantable Medical Devices, from the pacemaker to the latest in brain and nerve simulators. This month’s magazine also includes all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman’s Log and Vintage Radio, providing stacks of great reading.
