Silicon Chip October 2014
In this issue of Silicon Chip Magazine, build a Digital Effects Processor for guitars and musical instruments. This unit provides 10 different musical instrument effects, including echo, reverb, tremola, fuzz, compression, flanging and phasing, ideal for bands or solo performers. The unit has very low noise and the distortion is less than 0.02%. Each effect has adjustable parameters and is a great way to add a wide range of effects to your music. The unit requires only a few components and is built around the WM8731 CODEC IC.
Also this month, build a Courtesy LED Light Delay for cars,
this compact unit is designed to work with the LED Lamps and will provide an adjustable 1-133s delay once the car door is closed.
The lights will automatically switch off, when the ignition is switches on and the unit will work with both
positive and negative door switches. Finally this month, build a Passive Direct Injection (DI) Box, the unit
converts unbalanced signals from a musical instrument into a balanced output signal. This unit does not require power and
can perform as well as a powered unit. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
In this month’s articles, a quick look at 'The Currawong', this amplifier is a combination of both Valve technology and modern solid state technology. The output stage consists of a ultra-linear class AB configuration with 4 valves in each channel, the full design and production details will be published in coming issues. Also this month, a guide to assembling the popular Velleman K8200 3D Printer, for those tackling this assembly project this article is a must read. The article provides plenty of practical hints and assembly information for building this kit. Finally this month, a quick introduction to electrolytic rust removal. Plus all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman’s Log and Vintage Radio are included, providing stacks of great reading.
