Silicon Chip November 2016

Silicon Chip - November 2016

In this month’s November issue of Silicon Chip Magazine, build a 50A Battery Charge Controller. This charger is suitable for the heavy load batteries, normally used with campervans and mobile homes. A typical 230Vac charger will output only around 5A at 12Vdc, this unit supplies up to 50A and will charge your mobile home’s batteries in a fraction of time compared to a standard charger. The unit will switch off the power supply when the batteries are fully charged, with full indication of charging and power status. The unit is also suitable for 12V or 24V batteries.

Also this month, build the Phono Input Converter for using the phono input on an amplifier for a CD player or other line-level source. Ideal for when there are not enough inputs available on your amplifier and the phono input is available. Finally, this month build the Micromite Plus Module with LCD. This powerful microcontroller module is based on the Microchip PIC32MX470 with MMBasic interpreter installed, with a total of 512kb of Flash Program Memory and 128kb of RAM. The full color LCD display has 320 x 240 pixel resolution and can be easily controlled using the MMBasic commands. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.

In this month’s features, an excellent introduction to IoT (The Internet of Things). Confused by all the talk of these devices, this article explains the terminalogy used and what the future holds for these devices. Also in this month’s articles, Micromite programming is explained with examples for creating graphics and also reading and writing to an SD card.
