In the November issue of Silicon Chip Magazine, build a Fingerprint Access Controller unit. This unit stores up to 20 fingerprints and drives an electric door strike on correct fingerprint identification. The unit incorporates a separate LCD display which indicates the status of the unit and provides an easy to follow method for adding and deleting fingerprint ID's. Ideal for use with garage doors, outdoor sheds as well as your front door.

Also this month, build an Universal Loudspeaker Protector Unit. This unit is designed to work with the Ultra-Low-Distortion Amplifier Modules, as well as similiar amplifers. The unit provides fast speaker disconnection on the detection of a DC fault, as well as providing temperature monitoring for disconnection on overtemperature, together with the ability to turn on the speaker fans when the temperature reaches a certain level. The unit also provides muting for the speakers when the power is turned on and off, to prevent the thumps common with some amplifiers. A total of 6 on-board LEDs provide status indication for the unit.

Finally, this month a 5-Element Yagi Antenna, for use when receiving Digital Audio Broadcasting. A good antenna can greatly improve the reception and sound quality of digital audio broadcasts while reducing the dropouts that can occur when using a portable receiver. This antenna can be built cheaply, with readily available parts. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.

In this month’s features, a very interesting article on the developing technology of Organic Electronics. These materials will enable a wide range of products to be built cheaply and on flexible materials. The possibilities include printable large solar panels, disposable medical sensors, flexible displays and much more.
