Silicon Chip May 2014
In the May issue of Silicon Chip Magazine, build an easy to use RGB LED Strip Driver. Red-Green-Blue LED Strips are now available cheaply in long lengths and can provide a very interesting visual display. This unit can easily control the series of LED's to produce attractive multi-color display and light sequences. The unit has Six 3-Channel Outputs for each LED, the unit is powered by 12-17Vdc, so there are no mains voltages on the board. The unit has 10 different pre-programmed patterns with a auto-cycle mode for switching the patterns periodically.
Also this month, the new Micromite microcontroller, this is a PIC Microcontroller preloaded with a BASIC intepreter, making programming very easy with simple BASIC Commands. Finally this month, a Deluxe Fan Speed Controller for 240Vac Mains Fans, this unit provides full speed control from a smooth slow to maximum speed, with no radio interference. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
This month’s features include a quick review of some of the Andriod Apps available for the Electronics enthusiast, with Oscilloscopes, tone generators, circuit simulators and much more available to download to your smartphone. Also a look at the new GertDuino board, which combines both the Raspberry Pi and Arduino Boards. Finally a review of the latest Mixed Domain Oscilloscope from Tektronix, this powerful unit combines a four-channel digital storage oscilloscope, logic analyser, protocol analyser, spectrum analyser and frequency counter into a single unit. Plus all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman’s Log and Vintage Radio are included, providing stacks of great reading.
