Silicon Chip December 2015

In this December Silicon Chip Magazine build a high visibility Large 6-Digit LED GPS Clock. This clock features large blue LED's that can be seen from a considerable distance together with GPS accuracy, as well as time zone detection and daylight saving adjustment. The unit also has automatic dimming, date display, battery back-up and much more, the unit can also be used as a count-up and count-down timer for sporting functions. The unit is based on the Microchip® PIC32 Microcontroller and has the option for program updates with the in-circuit programming adapter. The unit can also be built with red, green or white seven-segment LED Displays.

Also this month, build the Turntable Strobe, for checking your turntable speed for accuracy. It you have a stack of vinyl records and enjoy giving them a spin on your turntable, it is important to periodically check the turntable speed for accuracy, as even small speed changes can affect your listening pleasure. Finally this month, build a Speech Timer for contests and debates, ideal for schools and groups, this unit can count-up and down, as well as giving warning LED indication for when the time is almost up together with a buzzer to indicate the end of the time period. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
