Silicon Chip August 2008

The August Issue of Silicon Chip, includes a look at a newly developed concept of printing in the third dimensions, see your designs come to life, with this new 3D printing process. Also this month a look at the new TekTronix Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope, this unit boasts a huge array of features, including colour and windows-like interfaces. The unit also supports a wide range of digital signal monitoring, including CAN/LIN and I2C buses.

This month’s projects include a new design for the heavy duty 200W amplifier module. This new unit has excellent performance specs, including very low distortion, Class-AB design with high performance ThermalTrak Power Transistors, as well as smooth and flat frequency response over the audio range. The unit is quite easy to build and is ideal for use with PA and outdoor sound equipment. Also this month, build a radio receiver to pick up the noise originating from Jupiter or the Sun. This unit can be connected to a simple dipole antenna and is based on a single-conversion superhet design. This month also includes a contactless strobe and tachometer unit, for measuring the RPM of rotating machines. Based on a simple Luxeon strobe unit, this compact module includes a digital readout with fine frequency adjustment. Finally this month, Part 3 and the construction details for building the Musicolour unit. This unit boasts a wide range of programming selection options and is equal to the most professional units available today.

All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
