Silicon Chip April 2016
The April issue of Silicon Chip Magazine is still available, in this month’s issue build a Touch-Screen Boat Computer. This unit features an accurate digital speedometer, showing speed in knots, km/h and mph, on a large touch screen display. The unit also displays heading, location and relative bearing, together with accurate position information using the included GPS module. The unit is easy to build, being based on the Micromite mini-computer that is loaded with the necessary software for the unit.
Also this month, build the Microwave Leakage Detector unit. This compact unit can be easily mounted to the side of your microwave and will display the leakage, in an easy to read row of LED's. The unit can also test WiFi access point activity. This month, also build a simple Fridge/Freezer Alarm, this compact unit can be placed inside your fridge or freezer and will give a warning if the door remains open for longer than a set period. Finally this month, a 24-bit measuring shield for your Arduino board. This PC linked instrument can measure DC voltages with a very high 24-bit accuracy. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
In this month’s articles, a look at Gravitational Waves. Scientists have now proven the existance of these waves, originally proposed by Einstein in his theory of relativity. In this article, a basic background of the theory and also how they were discovered. Also in this month’s articles, a look at Digital TV and MPEG-4. A number of broadcasters are now also transmitting MPEG-4 signals with much higher definition than the previous standard definition signals. This month looks at the different resolutions and if your TV is capable of using these signals.
This month’s magazine also includes all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman’s Log and Vintage Radio, providing stacks of great reading. (Note: Catalogue Not Included)
