Standard Linear Stereo Headphone Amplifier from STMicroelectronics Offers 110dB Signal to Noise Ratio

Signal to noise ratio, power supply ripple rejection and crosstalk immunity make part suitable for use in high-quality end products

STMicroelectronics has introduced a stereo headphone amplifier circuit for use in high-end home audio/video systems, organizers, PC sound cards and CD-ROM drives.

The TS482 headphone amplifier will operate with supply voltages from 2V to 5.5V. At 5.5V, the device can provide up to 100mW output per channel into a 16 Ohm load, with a distortion of 0.1% THD+N maximum. The part can drive 16 or 32 Ohm headphones.

The device offers a high signal to noise ratio of 110dB(A) and a power supply ripple rejection of 85dB, both measured at 5V. Crosstalk immunity is 100dB at 1kHz and 80dB across the audible spectrum of 20Hz to 20kHz. The part has also been designed to reduce switch On/Off clicks.

The part has rail-to-rail inputs and outputs. It is stable at unity gain and can be configured using external gain-setting resistors.

The TS482 is available inMiniSO-8 and SO-8 packages and has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
