Silicon Chip February 2009
The February Issue of Silicon Chip, with a wealth of interesting articles and projects, this magazine is ideal for the electronics enthusiast. This month’s articles, include a look at digital radio and it's expected introduction in Australia in May. We have a brief look at the theory behind the operation of digital radio and the benefits it offers. Also for the RC Model enthusiast, a look at the new 2.4GHz DSS radio control system. This new improved system offers far greater reliability and is less prone to interference with a unique addressing code, enabling a large number of aircraft to be used simultaneously. Finally this month, a review of the new Waverunner 104MXi 1GHz Oscilloscope, this digital oscilloscope offers a USB connection and can be directly controller by Windows XP.
This month’s projects include a new design for the Tempmaster, this efficient electronic thermostat can be used to control a freezer, bar-fridge or other cooling device. The unit is designed for 240Vac operation and controls the unit by the mains supply, so no modification is required to the fridge or freezer. Also this month, a new Motor Speed Controller for power tools or appliances. This unit is rated up to 10A and offers smooth speed control over the entire range. Finally, a sound triggered photoflash unit, this is ideal for creating stunning photos of explosions or high-speed motion, including projectiles. The unit offers a wide range of time settings and is easy to build, using readily available parts.
All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
